Silencio is a fantastic example of the qualities we find most exciting in DePIN. Silencio is transforming how we understand and manage noise pollution. They have built what is now the world’s largest decentralized environmental intelligence platform focused on noise. Silencio’s innovative approach involves turning everyday smartphones into noise sensors, thereby democratizing data collection. With a global footprint spanning over 180 countries and more than 560,000 sensors, Silencio has effectively built a vast, real-time noise monitoring network. This network not only maps urban and rural soundscapes but also engages a community of contributors who are incentivized through the $SLC token system for their data contributions.

Silencio’s approach to noise pollution through a decentralized network of smartphone sensors represents a groundbreaking shift from traditional, costly, and less scalable methods. By turning everyday devices into environmental sensors, Silencio not only reduces infrastructure costs but also exponentially increases the coverage and frequency of noise data collection, offering a real-time, global perspective on noise pollution.
